Several months from now I’ll be miles away. Not sure if it’ll be up north or close to home, but somehow I’ll be miles away. I will miss the things around me the moment. That’s a fact I know. The feeling kicked me in the chest this Friday as I said goodbye to my fellow friends at the State competition. I looked around the large auditorium and instantly saw what I would be missing from my Saturdays: The suits, the other schools doing their thing, the practicing of pieces facing a random wall, the ballots, the postings, the personalities, complaints, joyous celebration, respect, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, pizza, caffeine in any container, trophies, books, rap battles, “good-line” games, rivalries, passion, and overall love for this thing called “Interp” that nobody else in our school knows anything about. A whole state of people that love to tell stories packed into one auditorium. It makes me want to go out to find the other story-tellers of this world, wherever I go to college. What a fantastic world the Speech world is… And I cannot believe I won’t see it each weekend after this. When I come home from college I’ll have the joy of seeing my parents, catching up with good friends, and doing everything there is to do in my hometown, but never again will I experience the joy of popping into characters and drinking in every last laugh the audience has to give. But here’s to the future, and here’s hoping that I may tell stories to the world someday. Onward I go into the world of musical theatre.
